What can I expect to pay?
Most patients over age 19 and under age 65 are not covered by OHIP for routine eye examinations, partial examinations and visual fields.

What is Covered by OHIP?
OHIP pays for one full eye examination annually, medically necessary partial examinations and visual fields for:
- Patients 19 years of age and younger: one full eye examination annually, medically necessary partial assessments
- Patients 65 years of age and older with no eligible medical conditions: one full eye examination every 18 months, a maximum of two medically necessary partial assessments in the 18 months following the full examination
- Patients 65 years of age and older with one or more eligible medical conditions: one full eye examination every 12 months, a maximum of two medically necessary partial assessments in the 12 months following the full examination
- Patients 20-64 years of age with one or more eligible medical conditions: one full eye examination every 12 months, a maximum of two partial assessments in the following 12 months (condition must have been present at the time of the full assessment)
- Visual field assessment: covered only for specific eligible medical conditions
OHIP does not pay for retinal imaging (OCT) regardless of age or condition.
